Hair transplantation with the DHI Technique

The DHI hair transplant technique is one of the techniques developed from the FUE technique.

The DHI hair transplantation technique is not very different from the FUE technique, in the FUE technique, the hairs are transplanted with special pens after being taken out. The most important characteristic of hair transplantation carried out using the DHI hair transplantation technique is that there is no need of any stitching or incisions made. however, the patient will not have bleeding. The aim of this technique is to minimize the period of time the grafts spend outside the body before being transplanted onto the area, and hence allow them to be healthier and stronger.

How is the DHI Technique Applied?

The DHI technique is applied just the same way as the FUE technique up to the transplantation part. After the hair roots are taken from the donor area, a technique different from the FUE technique is applied.

The DHI technique is carried out without using a scalpel. After taking out the grafts one by one, they are transplanted to the head without any incision or canal being made. It is a simple and very developed technique.

Because the transfer is carried without opening canals in the area in which the procedure is carried out, the recovery period is as short as 1 week. The relevant tests and analyses are carried out before the operation to determine the quality of the patient’s hair. Afterwards, the area to which the hair transplant is going to be made and the frontal forehead line are determined. If the crown of the head is completely bald, 4,000 to 7,000 grafts are taken from the area in between the top of the nape and between the two ears. In order for the roots that are taken out to not undergo damage, they are held under special light and warmth conditions. This is why this procedure must be carried out by a team of experts.

No extra protection is required during and after the DHI Hair Implantation procedure. Both antibiotics and painkiller used are necessary for before and after the procedure.

There is not much difference between the DHI technique and the FUE technique. People who require a more concentrated transplantation and those who want a shorter recovery period generally opt for this technique, but it can be said that this method is still at the probationary stage. Regardless of the name that DHI has made for itself as a new technology, in our current levels of technology, the FUE technique is a much more preferred technique.

Although the DHI technique provides advantages in terms of time, its disadvantages must also be researched thoroughly.

Advantages of the DHI Method

  • In the DHI Hair Transplantation technique, because the Choi needle both opens a canal and also places the hair without the touch of a human hand, the rate of success is a bit higher.
  • Because the transplantation procedure is carried out without opening canals in the area, the recovery period is as short as 1 week.
  • The procedure is one that is done without the touch of human hands and because of this, the hair can be given the desired direction.
  • Contrary to the technique of making incisions in lines, the DHI technique does not require any incisions.
  • With the DHI technique, there is the chance to carry out the transplantation process without the need to cut the hair very short.

Disadvantages of the DHI Method

  • As a new technique, it is likely more expensive than the other techniques.
  • Even though no scalpel is used in this technique, there may be a risk of an infection.
  • Grafts are taken one by one in this procedure, the duration for this procedure is longer than other procedures for hair transplantation.
  • The FUE technique lasts 6 to 8 hours, and with the DHI technique, it takes a day
  • Because it is a newly implemented method, not every place is recommended.
